You are not becoming someone new. You are returning to yourself. Introduction Everywhere I look, someone is talking about reinvention. Reinvent your career. Reinvent your body. Reinvent your brand. Reinvent your life. The message is usually the same: become someone new. For a long time, I believed that was the goal. That every transition required a new identity. That every chapter demanded a complete transformation. But the older I get, the less interested I am in becoming someone else. And the more interested I become in remembering who I already am. The Pressure to Reinvent There is a particular pressure that arrives in midlife. We begin taking inventory. The dreams we pursued. The opportunities we missed. The responsibilities we carried.
